Alexandra was adopted through a prominent southwestern agency when only ten days old. She was raised out-of-state by a loving and supportive couple who could not conceive children, given many advantages, and grew up to be a happy and well-adjusted young woman. Today, she has a family with three of her own children. She has always harbored a desire to know her birth parents (and her adoptive parents support her quest): family history, medical data, etc. and to reassure them that she is happy and doing well.

Linda—an unwed mother in a time when such mothers had no rights— was forced to give up her daughter at birth. She has never forgotten (nor let the children she had later in life ever forget) that they have an older sister somewhere. That baby was not put up for adoption for lack of love. She was loved then and is loved today by Linda. Linda and her family are not looking to replace the family that raised the little girl, but they would like to know her as a grown-up, be assured that she is doing well and have her understand the reasons why she was given up for adoption in the first place.

*** UPDATE*** Linda was contacted on Wed, Jan 31, 2007 by the Virginia Social Services - Her daughter has been seeking her out and through searching on both sides have finally made a mediated contact. The paperwork should be through sometime the first week of Feb and they should be on their way to a phone call and meeting. We are so excited for the families.

***UPDATE*** Both Linda and her family have had a wonderful reunion with her daughter after 36 years. The overall feeling is the family is now complete and the missing piece is found.

Adoption:

The practice of adoption dates back at least as far as the 1800s B.C.E. The first known written adoption law is found in the Code of Hammurabi in ancient Assyria. Our modern U.S. adoption rules derive from Roman Law.
